Nhambarkutar is an ongoing project that Sancho Silva set out to develop with the Satna Fai women’s collective. It is a laboratory involving permaculture experiments, but always linked to a space for sharing, orality and music. Nhambarkutar means snail in Balanta, and it was the name the women gave to the spiral-shaped laboratory, a form that has been dormant in the media library. As well as experiments with seeds, compost and irrigation, Nhambarkutar hosted performances by Demba and Fili Djabaté, who celebrated a sound ritual for the fertility of this space.
