Reforestation
In 2020, in one of the workshops held in Malafo on dreams and possibilities, one of the dreams expressed was that of having more palm trees (elaeis guineensis), a tree that is a great ally of the population, because in addition to providing shade and fruit it also provides wood, and with its branches and leaves various objects are made for daily use (baskets, bags, suitcases, ropes, fences, among others). It is true that palm trees have not yet been planted, but we have started with fruit trees (mango, lemon, avocado and banana trees) and medicinal plants (moringa and blungdjuba). Reforestation cannot and will not be a single and isolated practice, but continuous and progressive along the Mediateca’s path. Until October 2022, more than 200 trees have been planted, large trees (poilões and bissilões), fruit trees (mango, lemon, avocado, banana, guava, papaya) and medicinal plants (moringas, blungdjubás), the fences and structures were made with the planting of fleabane (Sterculia setigera) and the intertwining of several shrubs.
